gathering begins at 2pm

199 Edwards St, Bishop, California

Little town, big backyard wedding

Bishop is located on the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountains at about 4,000 feet elevation. In late September, we expect warm, dry days in the 80s and the nights cooling off with maybe the first taste of fall in the air.

If you are coming from out of town, we encourage you to arrive a few days early or stay a few days longer to make the most out of your Eastern Sierra trip, and give us the opportunity to spend more time together.

How to get to Bishop

As the bird flies, we are about 50 miles from Fresno. But you are not a bird, and there is no road over the mountains!

Highway 395 is a beautiful roadtrip! We are about 3 and a half hours from Reno, 4 hours from Los Angeles, and 4 curvy hours from Las Vegas.

Bishop has a small airport that connects to San Francisco on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays, through United Airlines.

Where to stay

Bishop isn't very large, so anywhere downtown will be pretty close to our location. There are also Airbnbs, and campsites nearby. Or maybe you have a friend in Bishop? We recommend finding a place to stay as early as possible. If you need help finding a place to stay, reach out to us directly.

We do have a block of rooms reserved at the Days Inn, which has the benefit of being right next to our backyard. Our reservations are for $125/night and we have blocked Thursday-Sunday, so let us know if you want on the list for one of those rooms.

What about gifts?

YOU are the real gift.

But if giving gifts is something that brings you joy, we graciously accept. We don't have a registry because there is nothing that we need. But we love unique, meaningful gifts, especially ones that are handmade.

If you don't feel inspired in that way, but still want to give something, consider making a donation to Wild Iris, a local non-profit that is very special to both of us. Wild Iris offers free and confidential support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or child abuse and their families. Jenn currently sits on the board of directors, Jeff formerly sat on the board of directors, and Wild Iris was founded in the house that we live in.

Are children invited?

Of course they are! Kids are such an important part of our community. Kids are invited not only to attend, but will also be invited to participate in the all children parade, with bubbles, flower petals, chocolate, and more. We will also have art supplies and other things for kids to do.

Accessibility

Our backyard is fairly flat with wide entrances and no stairs. The ground can be uneven though. Please remember that Bishop is at 4,000 feet, and the altitude and dry air can be challenging for some people.

There will be bathroom facilities accessible without stairs.

What should I wear?

Dress code: High Desert Garden Party

What does that mean? Literally whatever you want, honestly we don't care what you wear. But the vibe will be fancy for Bishop, less fancy if you're used to city life. It's a backyard wedding so consider wearing flats or block heel shoes, and bring a layer because the temperature will drop around 7pm when the sun dips behind the mountains.

YOU ARE THE ENTERTAINMENT

This is a community event, and we want YOU to be involved! We would love if many people brought a poem, a song, or a short performance to share. We will provide instruments and microphones, please reach out if you need a specific instrument, and we probably can find it in town.

Where did you meet?

Jeff and Jenn met under this cherry tree in southeast Bishop. Jeff was hanging out at Kyle H. and Jamie's house when Jenn walked by with her housemates Dorota, Stelth, and Casper to pick cherries from Kyle H's cherry tree. Jeff thought "who is this?" and introduced himself. Dorota said "Jenn, you know Jeff, you just voted for him" (to be re-elected as county supervisor).

In true Bishop fashion, Jeff and Jenn ran into each other at several local events over the next couple of weeks, including a music show at Jeff's house that Stelth organized.

And then what happened?

This pic is from one of our first dates, which involved drinking coffee at Indy Coffee Roasting, and then walking around the canal for way too long on way too hot of a June day, before admitting that we wanted to kiss.

Other early dates involved swimming in the artesians, dinner at Jeff's house, and a magical wildflower hike to Long Lake. It didn't take too long before we realized this was the real deal.

How did you get engaged?

Jeff proposed to Jenn in song at Halloweezer, a 90s-themed fundraiser that benefits the Eastside Student Center. The musical performance was part of Stelth and Dorota's (Jenn's housemates) 90s cover band set, and they were joined on stage by Jeff's 90s cover band made up of Jeff's housemates Masha, Blair, Kara, and Kyle A.

can you make it?

We are so excited to bring our communities together for this celebration, and you are important to us.

We know Bishop can be challenging to get to. If you can't make it, please mail us a note with a blessing, piece of advice, or favorite relevant quotation by September 6th. We will display it during the wedding so you can be part of our celebration.

Please RSVP by August 21st.
